How We Celebrate Together

Versasec’s latest all-hands team meeting brought together employees from around the world in a fun, productive session.

We recently held our second all-hands virtual celebration for the year in which our employees from around the world – from Germany and France, Malaysia, the U.S. and the U.K., and from Sweden to Egypt and the UAE – got together to celebrate, have fun, relax and enjoy a little bit of magic.

These gatherings, while a staple for many organizations during the COVID pandemic, got their start a little earlier at Versasec. For years, our virtual staff meetings have gathered employees from all around the world to discuss the latest achievements, product status, key updates as well as welcoming new employees. In 2020 while not being able to be together and celebrate, we launched the “V” Idea challenge, where we asked our employees for ideas that would improve our company in all areas within three categories: People and Company, Product and Productivity; and Sales & Marketing Initiatives.

A favorite of our 2020 meeting was the “virtual coffee breaks” – quick weekly online get-togethers where we get to know our teammates better. We don’t talk about work and it’s a great way to feel like we’re all in the same room despite our geographical distances.

This year we heard about the different holiday traditions around the world. People were surprised to learn that advent calendars in Sweden are themed with popular TV shows and we’re all looking forward to next year’s French advent calendars with wine! Employees shared about their favorite celebrations: Eid, Christmas and even Halloween/Carnaval were prominent in the conversation. Food was also prominent and we learned about a staple of Venezuelan Christmas dinner, the “Hallacas” (not to be confused with a tamal).

The all-hands event also introduced the most recent “V” Idea winners. The 1st place idea was from Ollie Oertel, who discussed improving the start-up process for our flagship product, vSEC:CMS, by including a powerful Maria database in the installation bundle. Ellen Thorén took 2nd place for her idea for internal “Speed Demos” where team members will share a presentation every 4-6 weeks on what they are working on – from R&D and sales to all other parts of the organization. It will help all team members gain presentation skills within a circle of trusted friends and will give all parts of the organization insights into what is happening elsewhere in the company. Other winning ideas included planning ahead for the company’s upcoming 15th anniversary celebration and creating an internal forum to share useful IT tips among the staff.

We are excited for what 2022 will bring us and I personally want to wish you all, on behalf of myself, my family and Versasec a Happy and Successful New Year!
