Are You Street-Smart? I Am Cyber-Smart!

Are you teaching your kids to be “Cyber-Smart”, or are they teaching you? Today is International Youth Day and the United Nations reminds us of the importance of our younger generation.
Would you agree that Gen Z is more tech-savvy and vulnerable to cyber threats than any other generation? Research performed by Jason Dorsey suggests so with the following: “95% [of Gen Z] own a smartphone, 83% own a laptop, 78% own an advanced gaming console, and 57% have a desktop computer.” The United Nations defines youth as “1.2 billion young people aged 15 to 24 years, accounting for 16 percent of the global population.”
Stop. Think. Connect.
The Obama Administration launched a youth campaign called Stop, Think, Connect to equip future generations to become cyber-ready. A piece of advice within the Think step says “If the offer seems too good to be true, then it probably is. How many of you have ever received an email offering something free, like a cell phone or concert tickets? These are tricks designed to get you to give up personal information or click on links to automatically install malware or spyware.”
