Migrating from SAM to vSEC:CMS is Easy

It’s long been established that Versasec’s vSEC:CMS solutions support the most devices, whether its physical smart cards, tokens or devices or virtual smart cards. And, with the introduction of vSEC:CMS S5.7, we’re announcing support of Windows Hello for Business (WHfB), Microsoft’s new alternative to virtual smart cards available in Windows 10. WHfB is Microsoft’s next generation virtual smart card and offers several exciting features, including the use of biometrics identifiers and ease of use for Windows Logon.

Versasec’s vSEC:CMS credential management systems has long supported Microsoft two-factor authentication products and was the first CMS to support Microsoft’s initial virtual smart card offering. vSEC:CMS streamlines all aspects of credential management by easily connecting to enterprise directories, CAs, smart card printers, external databases, PACS and more.As organizations continue upgrading their operating systems to Windows 10, more organizations will migrate to WHfB. For those organizations that are not ready to upgrade to Windows 10, Versasec will continue offering its robust Virtual Smart Card (VSC) solution, which works with Windows 7 through Windows 10.Both WHfB and Versasec’s VSC are TPM-based secure, accessible on PCs and mobile devices, offer worldwide issuance capabilities and are cost effective. And when WHfB is managed by vSEC:CMS, WHfB users will receive the added benefits of full management capabilities and larger PKI support. We’re working closely with Microsoft to deliver the most robust set of management features and functionality for WHfB management and support. For medium- and large-sized organizations that are migrating to Windows Hello for Business, it will be important to use a credential management solution system like vSEC:CMS to perform centralized issuance to manage the lifecycle of WHfB. One additional feature, vSEC:CMS will offer is the ability to load encryption certificate into WHfB.Whether using Windows Hello for Business or Versasec’s virtual smart card solutions, it’s clear that enterprises and organizations are looking to remove the use of passwords from their security playbook in favor of two factor authentication (2FA).
