If it scares some people, I’d probably like it

After serving for four years in the U.S. Marines followed by college, Michael Girardin was ready for a change. He left behind his native upstate New York Adirondack Mountain region home and headed south to Texas, where he applied for and landed a job with Versasec.

Michael is the company’s latest hire who, as a Technical Support Engineer based in Austin, provides tech support and assists in system configurations for our clients across the Americas. As he becomes more familiar with the company, its customers and the technology, he will add consulting pre-sales support as well.

His background prepared him perfectly for his new role. Michael says he has always been interested in computers and information technology, which netted him an armed forces posting in cybersecurity. I was in charge of my unit’s servers and computer assets – which was essentially an IT security job,” he explains. The Marines provided Michael years of experience in technology: hardware, software, network configuration, and administration in coastal Newport, Rhode Island and then in Newburgh, New York with the Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 49, based at the Stewart Air National Guard Base.

Michael is most excited about Versasec’s teams and technologies. “I like that Versasec has a global reach, with teams located on most continents, and we’re growing. We are an international company with limitless growth: that’s awesome,” he said. “We can reach across all markets professionally, while personally we get to experience different cultures and meet colleagues from different countries.”

Michael’s approach to his new job revolves around flexibility. “It’s important to understand that not everyone is as technically proficient and not everyone has as much time as our tech engineers, so it’s all about being tactful, being willing to work, being open minded, and aware of the customers’ needs. It’s all about helping customers using a caring approach.”

When he’s not working, Michael enjoys outdoor activities including hiking in the mountains, camping and fishing. He’s also particularly fond of activities that provide an adrenaline rush, including skydiving, bungee jumping, rocking climbing and riding roller coasters. He says: “If it scares some people, I’d probably like it!”
