Almi Invest Exits as Versasec Outgrows Investment Portfolio
Versasec – a global, profitable, leading supplier of IAM products, announces a significant change in its ownership structure. The early stage investor Almi, has divested its ownership in the company. Consequently, several Versasec board members, management, and founders decided to increase their shareholding in the company. In addition, a new investor, Blixx, has joined and expressed their confidence in the vision and mission of Versasec.
Versasec is grateful for Almi’s investment in its early stages and its committed vision to success from day one. The investment company Blixx AB has made its first investment in Versasec AB. Blixx AB is a business angel-driven investment company with 8 owners. It invests in cash-generating companies, building up a portfolio of companies in early stages. Versasec is added to its portfolio which now consists of 6 companies. “We have been following the company for some time. Versasec has established itself very well in the market and is now moving quickly into new technology with a SaaS solution. Therefore, the present combination of low risk and a huge potential made us make this investment” stated Fredrik Runnquist, Chairman of Blixx AB, and Versasec’s board member.

Versasec Expands Support for Large-Scale Deployments and the Passwordless Journey

Versasec releases credential management system vSEC:CMS version 6.7, supporting large smart card deployments, the passwordless journey, and an improved user experience. Each Versasec version release delivers strategic integrations and technology innovations for business savings and effortless credential management.

Versasec’s award-winning software empowers businesses to adopt security credentials with PKI/PIV, FIDO2, and RFID, activate cryptographic operations (digital signature, remote access, encryption) and reach a Zero Trust model. New and existing customers are now able to download vSEC:CMS 6.7 evaluation version.
Versasec is expanding its list of supported smart card printers with the addition of Matica EDIsecure. This integration enables organizations to print high-quality graphics onto smart cards, and facilitates large deployments while taking advantage of other integrations available through Versasec.
Version 6.7 also features the ability to set PINs for FIDO during issuance. Without Versasec credential management, organizational leaders are not able to enforce PINs are set, leaving the user to individually manage their own credential. When left without a PIN, the user becomes at risk of account takeover, presenting a risk for the entire organization.
The new version includes additional technology enhancements, updates, and automated tasks, including:
- Managed certificates now have a dedicated repository for all transactions, including certificate issuance and revocation. Dedicated repository for managed certificates will facilitate traceability, and reporting.
- Continuing towards the passwordless journey, Azure AD TAP functionality has been expanded. Now, admins are able to create TAP and distribute it on-demand, not just during credential issuance. Allowing TAP to be generated and delivered to already-in-use credentials.
- General performance improvements including application start up, credential information loading, and more.
- Added support for Thales SafeNet IDPrime 3930 FIDO. The SafeNet IDPrime 3930 is a dual FIDO-PKI device designed for combined FIDO-PKI-based use cases.
- Enhanced user experience in the Admin application. Implementation includes a quick switch from Smart Card Repository to Managed Certificates Repository.

Versasec, a global leader in credential management, is proud to announce its membership in the Microsoft Intelligent Security Association (MISA), a global ecosystem of independent software vendors and managed security services providers. MISA members have integrated their products and services with Microsoft’s to better defend against a world of increasing threats. By joining MISA, Versasec looks to advance global collaboration in multi-factor credential management and expand the Versasec integration portfolio in close proximity to Microsoft and partners.

Versasec orchestrates multi-factor authentication (MFA) credentials with Microsoft Azure Active Directory (Azure AD), part of Microsoft Entra. The solution allows organizations to quickly deploy an Azure AD integrated identity and access management solution, on-prem or in the cloud, increasing usability and protection against phishing and man-in-the-middle (MIM) attacks. With Versasec credential orchestration, organizations can be up and running in just hours, ready to issue MFA credentials (smart cards, USB tokens, VSC and WHfB), integrating all the necessary elements, from directories, PKIs, HSMs, printers and more. The Versasec integration with Azure AD and Microsoft Active Directory simplifies the connection to user data to perform credential lifecycle management tasks, for both, on-prem and cloud-based systems. For self-service tasks, Versasec connects to Azure AD for user identity verification. Versasec ensures the credential is always in the required state, managed in accordance with internal security policy, and that all systems are aware of its state.
Versasec managed credentials can be used for numerous use cases, including Azure AD certificate based authentication, considered one of the highest levels of secure authentication. Versasec expands their identity orchestration to support FIDO2 credentials in Azure AD
Versasec Azure AD TAP integration enables enrollment of passwordless authentication methods with centralized credential management benefits.

Versasec’s new product version vSEC:CMS 6.6 expands its Microsoft Azure AD integration bringing businesses greater control and simpler deployment of FIDO. Businesses can now issue Temporary Access Pass (TAP) from Versasec credential management systems and enjoy audit trails, distribution, delegation of duties, and automation of tasks.
Versasec’s award-winning software has empowered businesses to adopt security credentials with PKI/PIV, FIDO2, and RFID, activate cryptographic operations (digital signature, remote access, encryption) and reach a Zero Trust model. Each Versasec version release delivers strategic integrations and technology innovations for business savings and effortless credential management.
“Versasec’s promise of delivering the highest level of security to businesses, regardless of size, credential type or deployment model, now extends to include FIDO in Azure AD,” stated Joakim Thorén, founder and CEO of Versasec. “By integrating TAP issuance to the lifecycle processes of the credential, organizations receive all the benefits of a credential management system as including delegation of duties, audit trails, operator and self service. The management of workforce user credentials for Azure AD authentication with FIDO and CBA is now possible in the cloud and on-prem.”
The new integration allows businesses to add TAP to their credential issuance process, enhancing the user experience and improving security. Businesses can now generate and distribute AAD TAP for their employees from the familiar and enterprise-purposed Versasec credential management system (see image above). At its core, TAP allows employees to authenticate directly to AAD and onboard passwordless authentication methods, such as FIDO.
Version 6.6 features additional technology enhancements, updates, and automated tasks, including:
- New Certificate Authority integration: certSIGN’s certSAFE Certificate Authority. User credentials can now be issued from vSEC:CMS and vSEC:CLOUD with certificates from certSAFE CA.
- Navigation and user interface improvements for Admin and Agent applications.
- Added “credential update view” to the lightweight administrator application, vSEC:CMS Agent. Admins, who prefer the agent application, can now update user credentials without revoking and re-issuing, saving time and resources.
- Expanded supported credential list. Now, HID Crescendo 144K Smart Card can be configured and managed through vSEC:CMS and vSEC:CLOUD.
