Today, we are excited to introduce you to Christopher Lemus, one of our newest team members in Austin. Per-Anders Fjärdsäter, our Chief Financial Officer, sat down with Christopher to learn more about his journey to Versasec, his passions and what he’s looking forward to in his new role.
Per-Anders: Christopher, welcome! You’ve been with us for about three months now. Can you tell us about your role and how your experience has been so far?
Christopher: Thank you, Per-Anders! I’ve hit the ground running since I started on February 17th. It feels like I met the team yesterday! My primary role here is providing technical support for our customers, primarily in the Americas region. I’m also starting to get involved with professional services and some pre-sales consulting, but right now, my main focus is really nailing down the technical aspects and learning the software inside and out. I’ve had the opportunity to work with some significant clients, which has been a fantastic learning curve. I’m essentially the point of contact for our customers when they need assistance with our software. It’s been a lot to take in, but everyone has been incredibly welcoming and supportive. I’m still adjusting to everything, but I’m very excited about the challenges and opportunities ahead.
Per-Anders: I’m very glad to hear that. What sparked your interest in technology, and what experiences have you had before joining Versasec?
Christopher: I graduated last May with a degree in Management Information Systems (MIS). I chose MIS because I’ve always had a passion for both technology and business, and it seemed like the perfect blend. My passion for technology began in high school, largely thanks to an inspiring IT teacher who became an early mentor. His encouragement and support played a significant role in shaping my career path and pursuing industry certifications. During my senior year of college, I worked for a gaming studio based in Los Angeles. I was a project manager, working with developers on Roblox games for different types of companies, among them, financial services and streaming media organizations. It was a very collaborative and international environment, with team members based in several countries. I also worked part-time providing technical support for a company in Austin, which helped me deepen my technical knowledge. I’m grateful for this new role, I see Versasec as the perfect opportunity to learn and grow in this field. The work with the gaming studio, though different, gave me insight into software development and project management, which I believe will be beneficial here.
Per-Anders: What are you most excited about at Versasec?
Christopher: I’m most excited about the company culture and the opportunity to solve problems. During the interview process, it was clear that everyone enjoys working together and the international aspect is something I really appreciate. Everyone has been incredibly friendly and willing to help. Specifically, I’m eager to troubleshoot and provide solutions to our customers. It’s very satisfying to fix issues, big or small, and I know I’ll be in a constant learning environment here, which is very important to me.
Per-Anders: Versasec is an international company, and our readers always love to learn about our team’s backgrounds. Can you share a bit about your personal background and language skills?
Christopher: I’m a native Texan. I was born in Dallas and grew up there for most of my childhood before moving to San Antonio. I’m actively working on improving my Spanish. Many members of my family speak Spanish and I can understand quite a bit, so it’s a big goal of mine to become fluent this year. I would like to travel to Mexico and immerse myself in the language and culture at some point. For college, I moved to Austin and have been here ever since. I’m excited that here in the Austin office, I have the perfect environment to practice my Spanish with colleagues like Michael Samara, who will definitely keep me on my toes!
Per-Anders: Those are great goals, and what do you like to do when you’re not at the office?
Christopher: Outside of work, I’ve been focusing on my health and fitness. I enjoy going to the gym and running, and I want to do more hiking. I also love to read and cook. I’ve been thinking about taking a culinary class because I’m fascinated by the process of creating great food. I often get inspiration from Instagram and YouTube, trying to recreate dishes I see online. I also want to travel more. Last summer, I went to Florida with my sister and visited Universal Studios, which was a lot of fun. And of course, I’d love to explore more internationally.
Per-Anders: Thanks for chatting with us, Christopher! We’re thrilled to have you on the Versasec team.
Christopher: Thank you for having me! It’s been great.
