vSEC:CMS Summer Series 2025: Unifying PKI, FIDO2, and Physical Access

Welcome to Versasec Summer Series 2025. I’m Ivan Denchev and I’m a Pre-sales Engineer at Versasec.
PKI, FIDO2, RFID
Okay, so maybe that’s enough stories about vSEC:CMS for now. Let’s focus on PKI. That’s where my background lies, and it’s still, until today, one of the most exciting topics for me. Here’s what’s managed with vSEC:CMS: cryptographic operations like digital signatures and encryption. Certificate management, this is one of the most annoying topics I’ve ever seen in my career. Imagine having to manage multiple certificates, let alone having hundreds or thousands of them. Smart card batch issuance now also available for FIDO since our latest release called vSEC:CMS 7.1. PIN Unblock, including offline and online options and air gapped capabilities for highly secure use cases. As you can see, we’ve been managing PKI credentials since 2007. That’s nearly two decades of development based on real world needs. Our clients span governments, technology, finance, healthcare and manufacturing sectors where credentials must never fail. Our platform is trusted by over 500 customers. On average, they stay with us for 95 months. That’s nearly eight years. This long term retention speaks to the reliability and value of our PKI management and credential solutions. So see for yourself.
FIDO2
So let’s add one more. PKI capabilities intersect with FIDO2. CTAP 2.1 provides some control over devices, but our Versasec FIDO2 Enterprise features go way beyond that, offering enterprise grade control for admins. The last circle we’ll add is RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), which here stands for physical access credentials like building access badges, for example. Each circle here, PKI, RFID, and FIDO2, represent a different credential type that might be used in your organization. The center overlap means you could be using one, two, or more of them, depending on your needs. vSEC:CMS handles and automates all of them from one platform. One important correction at the end is that RFID is a type of physical access credential, not a replacement for physical access technology. Versasec supports RFID, but also other physical access methods like NFC or smart cards, using whichever is appropriate for your environment.
